MEISNER TECHNIQUE - FREE OPEN CLASS
Meet Richard Handy - December Instructor
William Esper taught me that when you have a student in the craft that you have their soul in your hands and with that there is a great responsibility to honor, love and respect each soul as you help guide them to discover their truth. That has been my mantra for as long as I have been teaching. I am driven to help actors be vulnerable and discover their deepest truth to enable them to play fully and effortlessly in their passion and ultimately life. I work to help actors see and move through the things that are getting in their way and preventing them from connecting to themselves, others, their environment, their characters and their emotions. I want actors to see and feel how extraordinary they are and how incredible every aspect of this craft is from acting, movement and the business to scripts, auditioning and creating stories all to captivate the masses and ourselves. The key is to do the work, consistently lean into the dark and play. To play in your emotions, in the writing, in the creation and in your heart. I am grateful to have the privledge to work with actors. They continually teach and inspire me.
Richard is an actor, dancer, director, producer and instructor. He trained in NYC at the William Esper Studio, the world’s foremost studio dedicated to Meisner Technique based actor training. Additionally he trained with first generation Meisner instructors Robert X. Modica and Freddy Kareman, Moises Kaufman, The Actors Movement Studio and at the American Dance Festival,. He is a former member of the NYC Collective.
“After having the privilege of working with Richard over the past six years, I honestly believe that he is one of the best clinicians in the business. His knowledge base and experience level are undeniable. The work and theories of Meisner, Kaufman, Adler, and Bogart are well within his wheelhouse and easily accessible. However, where Richard really shines is in his ability to interpret those theories and apply them to even the most inexperienced artists. He connects in a way that both challenges and affirms his students. Consequently, he is able to peel away barriers that keep students from finding honesty and creating a real experience for the audience.”
